 | | | | | Albert's Shed Manchester - reader comments | | "The beef was very poorly cooked, could not eat it, it was pink in the middle but the texture was of raw meat, very chewy lots of fat. The rest of the food was good, but when I mentioned it to the waiter, he never even had the decency to come back to me with any comment from the chef. Customer service should be a priority and an acknowledgement would have been fine and maybe a gesture of some kind, i.e. a drink " - christine swindells, hyde 8/9/08 (visited on sunday afternoon) |
| | "This was my second visit to this restaurant and just as impressive as my first. We sat outside under their glass canopy with the heaters on and it was an incredibly pleasant atmosphere. The waiters were friendly and the food delivered in good time. The wine list was not very extensive but the bottle we ordered was resonable and very agreeable! The Risotto was slightly salty. This would have been fine had they offered tap water with the meal. It would also have been nice to see some little extras like mints or bread (especially considering the price!) Would recommend highly for a good quality meal in a lovely location. I will definitely be going back" - jeremy john masson, manchester 20/8/08 (visited on weds evening) |
| | "I went to have dinner with my husband in Alberts Shed last night and would never go back again. For a start, the table linen was dirty and the manager looked all stressed out when showing us to our table even though the restaurant was not even half full. I ordered Baked Aubergine for starter and found hair lying on the dish when I got to the last bit of it. I didn't complain as I nearly finished the whole dish anyway. My Smoked Haddock Risotto was extremely salty and I had to send it back. They did make a fresh one for but it just didn't taste that good either. For a restaurant that charges that sort of price, the drinks were also disappointing. My husband had a lemonade and it was flat and my orange juice tasted cheap. I would never go back again" - carmen, manchester 2/7/08 (visited on tuesday evening) |
| "Being based next to Albert's Shed restaurant in Castlefield, we get to see the hundreds of customers who flock there on a daily basis. We've obviously also been customers ourselves on many an occasion. The decor and location, with plenty of parking too, make it the ideal restaurant for a business meeting or romantic meal. The food is also of a good quality, an International menu with more than a nod to Italy. On our latest visit, my Salmon and Lemongrass Fishcake starter was tasty but so hot it burnt the top of my mouth - fortunately not enough to kill my taste buds. Service was good although during the course of the night would see us served by almost every member of staff. A personal waiter delegated to serve specific tables would have been far better and resulted in less "somebody's already taken our order" responses to their questions.
Described on the menu as 'definately one to try!', the Confit Duckleg with a Strawberry and Cracked Black Pepper sauce was slightly overhyped but still tasty and great value for money at just £12.95 with 2 side portions included in the price. The fact that we ordered 2 duck portions may have explained the lengthy wait for it to be served, however looking at people on other tables around us, mainly business people, there seemed to be a few other diners growing impatient too - perhaps they'd also fallen for the description of the 'definately one to try' duck. Prices are excellent yet it is still up there with the smartest restaurants in town. A few minor changes and it would certainly become the best restaurant in town. That said, the view from our office window confirms it is definitely one of the busiest restaurants in town so they're obviously doing something right." - restaurants of manchester 17/9/07 (visited on a monday evening) |
