Olive Press Italian Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

Trusted Reviewer "We turned up at The Olive Press at 8pm, not expecting to get a table, but there was a small table for two free near the bar. The service was very good and quick. I enjoyed the 21 Day Matured Char Grilled Fillet Steak (£22), and my girlfriend had the Swordfish with pasta & vegetables, which was excellent. Overall, we both enjoyed the food at The Olive Press. I've been to the other branch in Preston, and the Manchester one is far better. It is a reliable restaurant which serves up the goods." - Bill McLocklan, Manchester - TRUSTED REVIEWER (14/7/09, visited on a friday evening)

"We booked The Olive Press on the basis of the interesting and varied menu. The only down side was the noise. As there is little to absorb sound, the party of 10 or so women seated by us was pretty deafening to say the least, and spoilt any conversation we were attempting, in fact I was ready to leave. We pointed this out to the waitress who was extremely diplomatic but as she mentioned that the party were 'friends of the owner', we were sort of stuck with their noise for most of the evening." - angela, bury - member since jan'09 (15/6/09 visited on a friday evening)

"Wonderful!" - tom araya, stockport 2/3/09 (visited on a friday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "Three of us visited Olive Press on a Friday night without booking and got straight in. We'd tried a few other places and were surprised that it was so busy the first weekend after Christmas. We ordered our drinks and sat down with the menu. There was no need for a starter, so we went straight to mains, ordering 2 pizzas and cannelloni, specifically requesting no chillis on one of the pizzas. When the food came, the cannelloni and one of the pizzas was ok but the other pizza had to be returned because they'd included chillis on it. Unfortunately the waitress insisted that there had been no request for the absence of chillis. Never a good sign. Another pizza arrived pretty sharpish and we enjoyed our food. At this point, we had to ask for a second time for some water whilst we looked at the dessert menu. We ordered a chocolate cheesecake and a panacote. The cheese cake was good but the panacote was excellent and the highlight of the meal. On the whole The Olive Press is ok. I was surprised the service wasn't a bit better bearing in mind it wasn't that busy. I would, however, question going back given the price of the meal. Just up the road you have Croma and Piccolinos doing similar food, cheaper and arguably better. We decided upon The Olive Press because we didn't want to stray far given it was -3°C outside which leads me on to my final point. When it's so cold outside they should have put the heating on in the restaurant." - stephen lake, manchester 12/1/09 (visited on a friday evening)

"If you visit The Olive Press you have to try the Mushroom Ravioli, it was the most magnificent starter I have ever tasted. The night on a whole was great. A few things let it down, one being during my main meal I wasn't asked if i would like any more drinks. And secondly the waitress didn't really make an effort. She looked as though she didn't want to be working there. I would visit the Olive Press again though, as the food is amazing!" - roz, manchester 2/1/09 (visited on a wednesday evening)

"Always visit The Olive Press on a Sunday for lunch, lovely food and atmosphere, great wine... looks great after the refurbishment!" - julie, manchester 24/9/08 (visited on a sunday afternoon)

Trusted Reviewer "I've been to The Olive Press several times, and I'm usually not disappointed. The food is always very tasty and reliable and the staff are absolutely first class. This is one of those versatile restaurants that has something for everybody, a casual drop-in for a quick meal anytime of day or a more leisurely evening meal with a good bottle of wine." - ian, stockton heath 16/5/08 (visited on a thursday lunchtime)
