Leoni's Restaurant Manchester - our review
From Chile With Love (review from April 2008, menu may have changed since)

Trusted Reviewer "Leoni's Italian restaurant has always been popular with business clients and was famed as being the favourite haunt of Luciano Pavarotti when he was in town (there's still plenty of photos on the wall of the operatic legend when he dined here). The current owners (who also own El Rancho in Heywood) have allowed their Chilean roots to complement their many years of working in Italian restaurants and have created an eclectic menu which should appeal to the establishment's existing customer base as well as those seeking specialities from Latin America and Spain. The food is honest and flavoursome and prices are as welcoming as the friendly staff. The Pizza Calzone (£7.50), was excellent and highlighted why the new owners are reluctant to drop the Italian influence from the menu, whilst the Sword Fish (£8.95) was huge and cooked in true Latin American style, lightly buttered and grilled in an olive oil, lemon juice and parsley sauce. Whilst it wouldn't win any awards for presentation, it certainly gets a thumbs up for taste. To wash down the mains, the wine list of Italian and New World wines is impressive - arguably one of the cheapest in town - and an excellent bottle of Casa Vinicola Scanavino Barolo sells at a staggeringly low price of £30. Leoni's is popular with celebrations and the party menu is also worthy of mention at just £20 for 3 courses. It's the ideal place to celebrate with a large group of friends or, if you're dining as a more intimate party, simply looking for homely South American or Italian cooking." - Restaurants Of Manchester ~ 25/4/08 (visited on a wednesday lunch)

Leoni's Restorante Latino Manchester - member's reviews

"I had previously visited Leoni's restaurant and it was Italian. It seems to have lost its identity as it's now an Italian, Spanish, Argentinean restaurant. There's a wide range of food on the menu but I preferred it when it was just an Italian restaurant. It's quite bright, too bright for a restaurant, and this meant there was not much atmosphere. Candles on the table would have been a nicer touch. It was a bit tacky, although good for groups and parties. The service was fine, no problems at all, however I felt that the food was quite bland. My steak was OK but cooked quite rare and not 'medium' as requested. The chips were very bland, not what I would expect from a restaurant. I would have expected this standard of food in a chain pub or a cafe, but not in a restaurant. For the price, I would have expected a meal which tasted more appetising." - Karen Everall, Manchester -member since June 2010 (28/8/11 visited on a saturday evening)

"I was meeting a friend on a Friday lunch hour and we were very indecisive as to where to go so bit the bullet and tried Leoni's, as I haven't been in for a while, and was not overly impressed the last time I went (6 or 7 years ago). This time though, I absolutely loved it - so much better than it was before - the food was excellent and great value for money, the interior is nice and the staff lovely and friendly. I will definitely be returning very soon! A very happy satisfied customer ." - Jacqueline, Manchester -NEW MEMBER (12/8/11 visited on a friday lunchtime)

Trusted Reviewer "My husband and I visited Leoni's on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was quiet and they had a Bosa Nova guitarist/singer on who was just fabulous, so good in fact that we thought it was a CD playing in the background at first. According to the manager, the live music is on every Thursday evening. Leonis has a very nice atmosphere and the decor fits in really well with the Meditteranean theme. You have a choice of two menus with the main being Italian food or a smaller tapas menu. We went with the tapas and thought it was very good, especially the meatballs and the chorizo. The house red, that in most places you can rely on, was not a great wine and the rest of the wine list was quite expensive. The staff were polite and liked to have a chat and this made you feel welcome. I would go again and next time try the reasonably priced Italian menu." - Michelle Knowles, Rochdale - TRUSTED REVIEWER - (4/6/09 visited on a thursday evening)
