Buffet Metro Chinese Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"Good selection of food, quality was good and everything hot. Attentitive staff that quickly cleared plates between servings, overall very good for the price paid, would definitely go again." - colin andrew, ashton-under-lyne 19/10/08 (visited on a sun evening)

"Oh dear, what can I say?... me and my family visited this place after viewing the website, and the website made it look fantastic, it showed the menu on the website photos, it looked the dog's dangles. Nothing like it is when you get there. The plaster is falling off the ceiling, the air-conditioning pipes all on display and the tables was like being at school again. However if the foods good you can forgive these issues... right? Unfortunately that wasn't the case either... there was a reasonable selection of starters and mains, however most were very greasy and overcooked and dry. The salad bar was nothing to shout about either it was a very limited selection and dry looking as well, and as for desserts? what dessert!?! The only thing they had was Swiss roll, ice-cream and discusting coloured jelly, coconut jelly an assortment of tinned fruit, the only fresh fruit was dried kiwi slice and orange chunks. The only redeeming feature is the drinks are reasonably priced for Manchester city centre. There are a lot better buffet restaurants in Manchester for the same sort of price, and when I complained the manager basically said "lump it"." - samantha, oldham 24/8/08 (visited on a sat evening)

"We decided to go to this restaurant after looking at the website, everthing sounded great. Once we got there, what a let down. The choice of food was very limited, nothing like the website lead you to believe. It was like eating in a greasy cafe, alright if you like that sort of thing" - donna lee, oldham 24/8/08 (visited on a sat evening)

"Took the three children and myself for afternoon lunch - it was the biz! 'If Carlesberg did buffets this is how they would do it" - michael mulholland, dublin, ireland 7/5/08 (visited on a tuesday afternoon)

"Supposed to be 60 different variteties available - there wasn't and what was available was reheated/mildly warm. Starters swimming in grease, vegetables sloppy, salad bar - didn't even go there (the waiter kept stirring dishes, I think to keep the brown edging from setting in!) 1 of the '60 dishes' was a bowl offering approx. 6 or 7 tiny pickled onions! They give you a loyalty card, buy 5 meals get 1 free - I would not eat there again, free or not!! P.S. The coke machine could have done with a bit more syrup adding too!" - lisa, bury 17/2/08 (visited on a friday afternoon)

"All the food was fresh, waiters constantly checked the trays. We were under no pressure to leave even though it was Chinese New Year celebrations and they were busy. Recommended" - kev, cheshire 11/2/08 (visited on a sunday evening)

"We e-mailed a question the night before and Darren phoned me back on the day. Even though we arrived at 10pm, we were greeted by name and we were made very welcome. The food was very good with a wide choice even though it was half an hour before closing. We will visit this restaurant again it was excellent." - neil jennings, alderley edge 30/1/07 (visited on a tues evening)

"The other reviews are quite good, I wondered if they ate at the same place or they went when the chef was having a good day. The restaurant is a typical buffet arrangement, which attracts a certain kind of clientele and yes the food from these types of places is never as good as a proper restaurant, so I judged it on that basis. Unfortunately the food was terrible, all bar one dish, Beef in Blackbean Sauce, which is bog standard fayre in most Oriental restaurants and was unremarkable in any case. The problem was that anything which had been fried (most of the dishes) tasted of the cooking oil and not much else, some dishes suffered from not just that but were far too salty. To be honest I don't usually judge a place on the decor or toilets, I prefer to let the food do the talking, here's my thoughts anyway, the place itself was unremarkable and the toilets looked like a clampett DIY job. To conclude Buffet Metro was poor as a restaurant and poor compared to its competitors, I have been to Buffet City, which is not perfect but is far superior to this place." - richard, manchester 10/11/07 (visited on a fri evening)

"Great Chinese food in a relaxed environment. Staff very friendly and prices very good. Our children had a great evening and were made to feel welcome. We would go back tomorrow it was that good." - helen kenyon, manchester 6/9/07 (visited on a saturday evening)

"Everything you would expect of a good quality buffet. There were many many dishes to choose from, and all equally tasty. Been a couple times, my prefferred sitting is to sit under the sky-light. I was pleased to find that after each serving the waiters came to clear away your used plates. And at no point did i feel pressured/rushed to eat quickly and leave my table, like some other buffets do." - jonathan, manchester 6/9/07 (visited on a saturday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "Good quality, fresh food with so much choice I had no option but to take them up on their 'all you can eat' offer - especially for the superb beef dumplings! Service was attentive - I was impressed how they also kept stirring the sauces and turning the food to prevent it from becoming the usual stodge you find at most buffet restaurants. Superb choice of drinks with a great wine list on offer and prices were extremely good too. Great location for a bite to eat when shopping or heading back to Piccadilly Station also. Only downside was the toilets - they were very dirty and despite being a new restaurant they've kept the inherited toilets from the previous tenants without modernising them." - neil, restaurants of manchester 1/9/07 (visited on a sat lunch)
