"My partner had a craving for Mexican food. Unfortunately, in Manchester, the choice is very limited. We chose El Macho over Chiquitos, and soon regretted it. When we arrived we were shown the only table not overflowing with empty glasses and dishes. We asked for a bottle of wine and were told that they didn't have any. At all. No wine. We ordered Frozen Margheritas, and twenty minutes later they brought tepid water with a squeeze of lime. There was no alcoholic aftertaste. We complained, but nothing was done about it. The margheritas remained untouched for the rest of the meal. Our starters were good - the chili bowl was better than average - but the main meals were burnt on the underside, tasteless and stodgy. Despite them remaining essentially untouched, the waiter (one of many we encountered) did not ask if there was anything wrong at the end of the meal, and despite our complaints about the drinks, we were still charged. When we left, the tables still hadn't been cleaned. I hate to recommend chain restaurants over smaller ones, but go to Chiquitos. In the current economic climate, El Macho would do well to remember that good service, a clean restaurant and passable food goes a long way towards satisfying people." - steve kerns, manchester - 27/4/09 (visited on a saturday evening) |
