The Gaucho Grill Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"We went to Gaucho Grill a couple of years ago and it was great, however it seems to have gone downhill. It has taken me 6 months to get a weekend reservation and I was looking forward to it. Sadly, the service was very poor - friendly, but too slow and they seemed to disappear for extended periods. I could have put up with that if the food had been up to scratch. My Ceviche starter was made with what looked like salmon offcuts and was chewy (but tasty). I was looking forward to a great steak, but the ribeye disappointed. It too was tough and chewy and didnt taste that good either. The best bits were the sides! At their prices, with this standard of food and service I will not be going again" - andrew kluge, manchester 1/11/09 - NEW MEMBER (visited on a saturday evening)

"Gaucho has a very good atmosphere, a great place to celebrate with a group. The steaks are excellent and there's a good wine list (although slightly on the expensive side). The cocktails before dinner are a treat " - john rowlands, bolton 13/6/09 (visited on a friday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "I've visited Gaucho on numerous occassions, each time giving it the benefit of the doubt from previous bad experiences. One Valentine's Day set meal alone cost £95 per head for what was a disappointing selection of cold steaks! That's part of the problem - it's incredibly overpriced and the steaks are certainly far from the best I've ever tasted - although in fairness there's very little competition in Manchester with Robbie's Restaurant at the Renaissance, Grill On The Alley and the Malmaison being the only obvious choices. The decor is amazing (although not as good as it was when this place was Bill Wyman's Sticky Fingers) and the service, although hit and miss on some of my visits, is generally spot on. It's nowhere near the best restaurant in town as Sugarvine seems to state, and I'm not surprised it doesn't even make the Restaurants Of Manchester Top 10 list." - matthew, manchester 16/7/07 (visited on a wednesday evening)
